As a photographer, it's important to always critique and analyze your work, because let's be honest not every picture you take is truly a 10/10. From the beginning of the year, let me tell you my photography skills were absolutely horrendous. If you forgot about the student who took a picture of a railroad track AND a stop sign, here I am. There were every distraction you could think of in the background of my pictures, as well as no leading lines and everything was centered. As an artist, my work has greatly improved since August. I no longer carry around my invisible tool box of Rules of Composition and Elements and Principles because it's almost like a habit now, which is something that is crucial to be becoming a professional photographer.
(yikes, anyway)
Voice plays a key role in everyday life. Whether it's in writing, art or photography. In the beginning of the year, it was all about finding my voice because I didn't know how to express my identity as an artist. Now, showing my voice in my work is a piece of cake because it just comes natural to me. To keep it short and sweet, my voice is not used with words, but is shown in my work. My artwork expresses my thoughts and feelings about a specific subject. If I enjoy something, I use bright lights and I make it look enjoyable and positive using rules of composition and elements and principles. I think what makes my work more unique from the rest is that I know I'm different from a lot of students, but art is something that is embraced and cherished, and there's no time to point out the obvious differences from a student to another. In a lot of my work, I used music as a symbol of my voice. Whether it was my violin, guitar or concert tickets. Music has played a huge role in my influences because it's a form of expression that is used in my art work as well. As for my audience, I want them to not only gain knowledge of my personal identity, but to be inspired by my outlook on certain aspects of life.
Now for the big statement, I think it's important for any new artist to not be afraid of showing your voice. It's something that makes you stand out, but in a good way. Photography is in no way used in a form of judgement, so don't be afraid of stepping outside the required standards. When doing this, it can help you become an inspiration to the new artists that are just starting out. Photography changes your perspective on not only yourself, but the beauty around you. Embellish the opportunity to see life through a camera lens.
